Because I am a Girl

Because I am a girl:

      I am supposed to like dolls and dresses.

Because I am a girl:

     I am not supposed to know how to fix a car.

Because I am a girl:

     My husband should be the center of my universe.

Because I am a girl:

     I am allowed to cry.

Because I am a girl:

     I am allowed to change my mind at the last minute.

Because I am a girl:

     I am supposed to be nurturing to those around me.

Because I am a girl:

     I play with stuffed animals.

Because I am a girl:

    I was allowed to play with trains while I worked.

Because I am a girl:

     I was pushed out of the engineering field.

Because I am a girl:

     I am learning the helping profession.

Because I am a girl:

     I should know how to cook, sew, and clean.

Because I am a girl:

     I should always know the proper thing to do.

Because I am a girl:

     I am supposed to listen to the direction of men.

Because I am a girl:

     Men do not take me seriously.

Because I am a girl:

     I believe in karma, God Almighty, and serendipity.

Because I am a girl:

     I am overlooked for that promotion.

Because I am a girl:

     I am too emotional and I take things too seriously.

Because I am a girl:

     I am not supposed to play with the boys.

     I am expected to be a follower, not a leader.
